About

Salvaged by Britt, part of Salvage Lifestyle LLC specializes in reworking heirloom wedding dresses into modern, deeply personal designs. Led by designer Britt Gates-Kayyem, each piece begins with a mother’s or grandmother’s gown and is thoughtfully transformed to honor its history while creating something entirely new. Every Salvage bridal piece is one-of-a-kind—designed collaboratively, sustainably, and with the intention of carrying memory forward.

At Salvage, I see fashion as more than just clothing; it’s a way to honor the past while making responsible choices for the future. Every garment holds a story, and I believe in giving those stories a second life rather than letting them end in a landfill. Sustainable fashion isn’t just about reducing waste—it’s about shifting our perspective. If we shop with intention, repair what we love, and celebrate the beauty in what already exists, we can create a more thoughtful and responsible industry. By reworking and upcycling, we can extend the life of our clothes, reduce waste, and make more conscious choices. Thoughtful shopping isn’t just about sustainability; it’s about honoring the history of what we wear and making choices that reflect care—for the planet and for the things we hold dear.

The Designer

Britt Gates-Kayyem is the founder and head designer of Salvage Lifestyle and Salvage by Britt, a design studio rooted in sustainability, craftsmanship, and storytelling through clothing.

Raised in Los Angeles, Britt went on to study at the University of Pennsylvania before moving to New York City to earn her degree in fashion design from Parsons. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she launched Salvage with a mission to challenge traditional ideas of fashion by transforming repurposed and existing garments into refined, contemporary designs.

Salvage is built on the belief that meaningful design can extend the life of clothing while honoring its history. Britt’s recent work has focused on bridal and heirloom reworks—most notably transforming mothers’ and grandmothers’ wedding dresses into modern, one-of-a-kind pieces that preserve memory while creating something entirely new.

Britt works closely with each client to create thoughtful, intentional designs and welcomes new collaborations and inquiries.
